Cookies Policy
What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit. They are stored in your browser and sent back to the originating website on each subsequent visit, or to any other website that recognises that cookie. Cookies do not contain viruses and cannot run programs or access files on your device.
Cookies allow a website to recognise your device, remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and understand how you use the site so we can improve it over time.
Types of Cookies We Use
1. Strictly Necessary Cookies
These cookies are essential for the website to function and cannot be switched off. They are set in response to actions you take such as logging in, filling in forms, or setting your privacy preferences. Without these cookies, core features like authentication and security cannot work.
- Session token: Keeps you securely logged in while you browse.
- CSRF protection: Prevents cross-site request forgery attacks.
- Consent preference: Remembers the cookie choices you made so we don't ask again on every page.
2. Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how visitors interact with the platform — which pages are visited most, how long users stay, and where they come from. All data is aggregated and anonymous; it does not identify you personally.
- Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _gid): Measures traffic, popular destinations, and user journeys. Only loaded if you grant analytics consent.
- Internal page-view counters: Tracks which listings and categories receive the most interest to help us improve recommendations.
Analytics cookies are only set after you give consent in the cookie banner.
3. Functional Cookies
These cookies enable enhanced functionality and personalisation — for example, remembering your search filters, preferred county, or display language.
- Search preferences: Saves your last-used county, category, and budget filters.
- Theme preference: Remembers whether you selected light or dark mode.
- Onboarding state: Tracks whether you have completed the new-user onboarding flow.
4. Marketing Cookies
These cookies may be used to show you relevant promotions or travel deals, either on TembeaGo or on partner sites. They are only active if you opt in to marketing in the cookie banner. We do not sell your data to third-party advertisers.
Cookie Duration and Lifespan
Cookies may be either session cookies (deleted when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (stored for a defined period). The table below summarises the categories and lifespans of cookies we use:
| Cookie Type | Category | Duration | Purpose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Authentication token | Necessary | Session | Keeps you securely signed in while you browse |
| Security token | Necessary | Session | Prevents cross-site request forgery on all form submissions |
| Consent preference | Necessary | 12 months | Remembers the cookie choices you made so we don't ask again on every visit |
| Display preference | Functional | 12 months | Remembers your chosen light or dark theme |
| Search preferences | Functional | 30 days | Saves your last-used county, category, and budget filters |
| Analytics identifiers | Analytics | Up to 2 years (consent required) | Measures aggregate traffic and popular destinations via Google Analytics — only set after you give consent |
For security and privacy reasons we do not publish the exact technical names of our internal cookies. The categories above cover all cookies currently in use on this platform.
Legal Basis for Using Cookies
In line with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019 and internationally recognised privacy standards, we rely on the following legal bases for setting cookies:
- Legitimate interest: Strictly necessary cookies are set on the basis of our legitimate interest in providing a secure and functional platform.
- Consent: Analytics, functional (non-essential), and marketing cookies are only set after you have given us explicit consent via the cookie banner.
You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
How We Use Cookie Data
- To keep you securely signed in across pages and sessions.
- To remember your search and display preferences so you don't have to re-enter them.
- To understand which destinations, vendors, and features are most popular, so we can improve the platform.
- To measure the effectiveness of our communications (only with your consent).
- To detect and prevent fraud and unauthorised access.
Your Cookie Choices
When you first visit TembeaGo, a cookie consent banner appears at the bottom of the screen. You can choose to accept all cookies, accept only necessary ones, or customise your preferences individually.
You can change your preferences at any time by clicking the "Cookie Settings" option in the footer or via your browser settings. Note that disabling necessary cookies will affect core functionality such as login and security.
Most browsers also allow you to control cookies through their settings — look for "Privacy," "Cookies," or "Site Data" in your browser menu. Deleting cookies will log you out of your TembeaGo session.

Some cookies on TembeaGo are set by third-party services we use:
- Google Analytics: Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Cloudinary: Used for image and media delivery. May set performance cookies.
